First and foremost, we want to take this opportunity to thank our growing Cubio community for all of the great feedback we received after our big reveal. The excitement seems to be strong, and we definitely share the feeling. With that said, we want to take the opportunity with our first blog post to explain a bit more about the project and what the plans are moving forward.
So, what exactly is Cubio? Cubio is a sandbox game creation platform that empowers users to create, play, and share games. With our accessible, easy-to-use tools and the varying cosmetic and design options available, we want to provide our users with a space where they can express their imagination through their creations, as well as profit from them, and enjoy a growing catalog of fun and diverse games. At its heart, Cubio allows both creators and players to jump in and immediately start doing what they love.
In our reveal trailer, we showed some of the features of Cubio, but we want to expand on what users can expect when they finally get the chance to jump in and start creating. We've shared additional details about the Cubio Alpha in the FAQ section over at playcubio.com.
As they say, “two heads are better than one”, but why stop at two? That’s right, bring as many collaborators together as you want, with everyone actively participating in the real-time creation and design of a given game world. The main creator, a.k.a the game world owner, can set up collaborators by providing them with permissions to create and make modifications. and everyone will be able to see and participate in the changes occurring all around them in a live environment.
With a focus on ease of use, it will only take a matter of minutes for users to become familiar with all of the tools at their disposal. Before long, creators will have a map filled with lush environments, NPCs, and various objects and structures. When it comes time to bring life and interactivity to your game, Cubio’s blueprint system will remove much of the complexity of coding process, allowing you to easily define interactions and behaviors like creating triggers, events, and conditions for assets through a visual logic system.
To make worlds even more alive, we’ve implemented AI to help and support the creative process, including NPC voiceovers which make the characters living in your game more than just objects on the screen. We’ve only scratched the surface of what AI can provide for game creators in Cubio, and are excited to see what the future holds in this regard.
Even though Cubio comes packed with a diverse catalog of over 20,000 assets to be used in games, we we've also implemented a built-in Blender plugin, which equips creators with advanced design capabilities, enabling them to fully explore their creative potential and seamlessly integrate their creations directly into the game.
What are the plans for the future?
While Cubio is still in the early stages of development, plans are already set for where we want to take the platform and the respective features we want to implement. Our continued focus will be on creating a user-friendly marketplace that provides seamless and varied experiences from a catalog of thousands of games.
We believe that Cubio will be a place where people feel comfortable and safe to bring their ideas to life. For that, we’re focused on continuing to improve the platform, from its UI to the options and features available for users. We also want to foster a flourishing community where everyone can see how they're earning from their work and feel the support of fellow players like they belong and that they are being seen.
Currently, we're excited to welcome as many creators as possible to join our closed Alpha, giving you the chance to explore what Cubio has to offer. With that, we’re looking forward to all of the feedback we’ll be getting and will look to use that to build a better platform. If you‘re a content creator interested in creating and sharing content about the game during our Alpha and beyond, be sure to check here for more information and FAQs.
One final note: we’re excited to say that we’ll be at Gamescom 2023 in the Indie Area in Hall 10.2 at Stand E010g – D011g (Home of Indies). Everyone is more than welcome to show up, play around with some games, grab some free items, and chat with us for a bit. We can’t wait to meet you, and if you can’t be there, keep your eyes peeled on all our channels for all the latest news!
